I was happy with the quality and price on this item. I have been using only Seagate IronWolf drives in this NAS. When I needed to add another 24 TB, I couldn't justify the cost of IronWolf. After reviewing the specs of the Exos line I decided to save some money on this one. It powered up and was recognized by the OS. I was able to configure it and copy over the data to be populated on this unit quickly and easily. It's been behaving for three days with no issues and the logs are clean.
0 smart errors.
I thoroughly tested this drive on my Linux machine with the smartcrtl tests, and the drive was in perfect conditions. Great price, great drive. FYI, in Linux make sure you dont do a ext4 lazy journaling format, or you will have to endure 36 hours of small writes. A full non-lazy format will only take 10 minutes, and save the drive from excessive writes during the background lazy journaling.
Solid as a rock! 3rd or 4th drive like this version over the last few years and all have been reliable. I need a bigger drive doing videos as they take up lots of drive space.Steve S.NJ
Not working after four months (a few weeks after the return window expired). Worked well when I got it (I tested it) but now doesn't even spin up.
Would give 5 stars, but I have purchased 4 of these. 3 have worked great and one had the sata power connector just fell apart when unplugging to add another drive and hesitate cabling. I mist have just gotten one with a bad connector. I have never had a connector fail in this manner in decades of working with computers. As these are enterprise grade, gentle unplugging should not cause any issues.
This “refurbished” 24 TB turned out to be new, so quite pleased with the purchase at half of an as-advertised new HDD. Getting transfer speeds of up to 500 Mbps, so the ample space can be quickly filled and emptied. Seagate has definitely improved their quality, so good chance of a reasonably long life.
So far, so good. Running surface test on them right now, the two I ordered came in with less than 20 hours on each. I ordered 3 more.
Did extended long smart test. All good. Purchased 4 drives. All 4 drives healthy and working ZFS on TrueNas using Proxmox.
